I missed it when Austin’s Holy Wave released its debut lp, Knife Hits, back in January, so I’m happy that los grillos’ antennae managed to pick up on the psychedelic sounds of the band’s quick-to-follow ep, The Evil Has Landed. A torch-bearer, along with the similarly-minded The Black Angels, of Austin’s psych tradition, Holy Wave rock a Velvet-y drone over a Spacemen 3 squall of sound that’s laced through with a bit of folk for your inner madcap.

Knife Hits and The Evil Has Landed are available now at the Holy Wave Bandcamp page (just $5 and $3, respectively–well more than worth it). Check ‘em out here.

Willie’s latest, Heroes, is worth the price of admission for the Snoop Dogg duet on “Roll Me Up and Smoke Me When I Die” alone, but if that doesn’t have you convinced, then listening to the rest of the album just might. It ain’t nothin’ fancy, but it is a damn enjoyable record by a living legend playing music with his family and his friends. Though I’m willing to do as told, I hope I don’t have to twist Willie up and light him any time soon.

Heroes is out tomorrow via Legacy Recordings. Check it out here.

The album is currently streaming in its entirety via Spinner. Listen here.

It’s always good news that there’s something new coming down the line from the utterly unique and ever-searching talent that is Howe Gelb, so los grillos is psyched to say that the big collective from Tucson just got a bit bigger. Billed as Giant Giant Sand, Howe’s latest incarnation of his long-running Giant Sand is set to release its debut, Tucson. Featuring a 12-piece band assembled from the Denmark folks who’ve been running with Giant Sand for a decade or so now as well as some folks from Howe’s native Tucson, the album is described as a “country rock opera,” and advance track “Forever and a Day” delivers on that grand promise by setting Howe’s idiosyncratic songwriting against a lush, expansive musical backdrop.

Tucson is out June 11 via Fire Records. Check it out here.

Thiago Werlang, the driving creative force behind Looking For Jenny, has a talent for crafting distortion-drenched melodies, and with his laid-back vocal style, he’s establishing himself as Brazil’s answer to J Mascis. Though his songs don’t tend toward the high-flying guitar theatrics of the purple one, they have all the lo-fi, high-volume charm of early Dinosaur Jr. We’ve heard a song or two leading up to the release of the band’s latest ep, Monkey Rudiments, and now we’re happy to say that the album has seen its official release. Featuring six tracks in less than eighteen minutes, its a short blast of melodic noise–with enough variety in tempo and structure to keep things interesting–that’s sure to take you back to the early days of the indie underground.

Monkey Rudiments is out now via Transfusão Noise Records. Check it out here. Or download the ep at the Looking For Jenny Bandcamp page here.

Ragged, raw, and relentlessly catchy, Nashville’s Heavy Cream rock and roll like a basement beer bash Joan Jett gig. Produced by Ty Segall, the band’s latest, Super Treatment, is loaded with fuzzed out toe-tappers, all of which clock in under the three-minute mark. All in all, it’s a to the point approach that makes for an album that gets in, gets movin’, and goes before you know what hit you, leaving you ready for more of the band’s garage-punk get down. Rinse and repeat.

Super Treatment is out now via Infinity Cat Recordings. Check it out here.
