John Wesley Coleman / Followed By Static 12″ Split
Los Grillos would like to raise a glass of Old Grand-Dad to Italian label Way Out There Records for capturing two of Austin’s finest rock ‘n’ roll refugees on one handy slab of 12″ vinyl. Golden Boy John Wesley Coleman gets things started with his Personality Pankcake ep. Coming on the heels of last year’s loose and boozy Bad Lady Goes To Jail, these four tracks continue that album’s ramshackle charm. Roughshod garage rock for the late night, glassy-eyed set, Personality Pancake is perhaps best summed up by the title of its third track: “I’m Fucked and I’m Cool.” Similarly fucked and cool is Followed By Static‘s flip side, the Bacon Bear ep, which divides its time between psychedelic stompers and comedowns, and countrified noise rockers that bring to mind Sonic Youth covering Doug Sahm. Lo-fi and loaded with melody, these tunes will be stuck in your head all the way to Trailer Space, where you can get Spot to sell you a copy and pour you a shot of something to celebrate the occasion.
The John Wesley Coleman / Followed By Static 12″ split is available now via Way Out There Records. If you can’t make it to Trailer Space, check it out here.
